🛍️ How About These Shoes? — Shopping With A Friend

Today you will practice shopping with a friend: ask for an opinion ("How's this cap?" / "How are these shoes?"), make a suggestion ("How about…?"), say yes ("I really like it, too!") or no ("Nah. I don't think so.") — and review this, these, that, those and too from Lesson 15.

🎬 Let's Imagine...

Window Shopping After School

Read the little scene below.

MiaLeo, look at the window! How are those sneakers?
LeoThey're cool, but they're too expensive. How about this cap?
MiaNah. I don't think so. Oh, well — let's go back home!
🧑‍🏫 Teacher SamiMia and Leo ask for opinions, make suggestions and say yes or no — like real shopping friends! Today you'll practice all of this, plus "this, that" and "too" from Lesson 15.

🤔 When you go shopping with a friend, what do you say?

Mia montre des baskets dans une vitrine, Leo lui propose une casquette
💭 "How are those sneakers?" — "How about this cap?"
Step 1

💬 How's This? How Are These? — Ask For An Opinion

Use How's (= how is) for one thing and How are for two or more things — or for always plural words like pants and shoes.

1️⃣ One Thing

  • "How's this jacket?"
  • → "It's nice. I like the color."
  • → "It's too big for me!"

👟 Two Or More / Pairs

  • "How are these shoes?"
  • → "They're great!"
  • → "They're really expensive."
⚡

The color's nice = "The color is nice." In speaking, is often becomes 's: how's, it's, the color's. But never "How's these shoes?" ❌ → "How are these shoes?" ✅

🪟 Ask Your Friend!

Click something in the shop window: you ask the question, and Leo gives his opinion. Watch it and they!

Step 2

👍 How About…? — Suggest, Say Yes Or Say No

Use How about…? to suggest something to your friend. Then your friend can say yes or no — politely!

👍 Yes!

  • "Great! I really like it, too."
  • "Yes! The color's nice."

👎 No, thanks

  • "Nah. I don't think so."
  • "Hmm, it's too small."
  • "Oh, well. Let's go back home."
⚡

Nah is a friendly, informal "no" — use it with friends, not with your teacher! 😉 And don't mix up too (= also / too much), to (go to school) and two (2).

💖 Like It Or Nah?

Your friend suggests something. Read the tag, then swipe the card (or click 👍 / 👎): is it a "Great!" or a "Nah"?

Leo propose un sweat très coloré, Mia refuse en riant et montre une veste verte
😄 "How about this hoodie?" — "Nah. I don't think so!"

🎭 Create & Record: Shopping With A Friend

You and a friend are in a store. Write a conversation: ask for opinions (How's…? / How are…?), make suggestions (How about…?), say yes and say no — and decide what to do at the end!
