🥇 Ordinal Numbers — First, Second, Third…
To say a date, we use ordinal numbers. Most of them just add -th: four → fourth, six → sixth, ten → tenth.
After twenty, keep the ten and add first, second, third…: twenty-first (21st), twenty-second (22nd), thirty-first (31st). Short forms end like the word: first → 1st, second → 2nd, third → 3rd — but 11th, 12th, 13th!

Choose a number from 1 to 31. The machine gives you the ordinal word and the short form!
📆 Saying Dates — July 17th Or The 17th Of July?
There are several ways to say a date. With a specific date, use on: "The meeting is on April 19th." "The presentation is on September 13th."
🇺🇸 American English
- Month first: "July 17th"
- Written short: July 17 · July 2nd · October 21st
- We say: "July seventeenth", never "July seventeen" ❌
🇬🇧 British English
- Day first, with the and of:
- "the 31st of January", "the 21st of March"
- "the 7th of June"

🎂 Talking About Birthdays
Click a card to hear what people do on their birthday.
Culture note: in English-speaking countries, people wrap birthday presents in colorful paper, and the cake often has candles — one for each year. You usually bring a present only if you are invited to the party. Some older people prefer not to say their age, so we don't ask Grandma "How old are you?" — it's more respectful to just say "Happy birthday!" ❤️
