🍂 I Love The Fall! — Seasons, Love, Like & Hate

Unit 2 starts here! Today you will learn the four seasons (spring, summer, fall, winter), the difference between fall and autumn, and how to say what you love, like, don't like, dislike and hate: "What's your favorite season?"

🎬 Let's Imagine...

A Windy Day

Read the little scene below.

NoraLook at the leaves, Leo! Orange, red, yellow… I love the fall!
LeoBrrr! I don't like the wind. My favorite season is summer — I love the beach!
NoraAnd Yara? Does she like summer?
🧑‍🏫 Teacher SamiNo — she hates hot weather! Listen: love ❤️ → like 👍 → don't like 👎 → hate 😖. And "the fall" in the US is "autumn" in the UK. Let's learn it all!

🤔 What's your favorite season? Why?

Dans la cour d'une école tunisienne aux portes bleues, un jour de vent d'automne, Nora montre un bouquet de feuilles orange tandis que Leo frissonne, les bras croisés
🍂 "I love the fall!" — "Brrr! I don't like the wind!"
Step 1

🌸 The Four Seasons

A year has four seasons. Seasons don't start with a capital letter: spring, summer, fall, winter. We say "in the summer" or "in summer".

🌸springle printemps
☀️summerl'été
🍂fall / autumnl'automne
❄️winterl'hiver
⚡

Fall or autumn? They are the same season — the words are interchangeable. It depends on where the speaker is from: in the US and Canada, people use both, but fall is more common 🇺🇸. In the UK, Australia and New Zealand, autumn is more common 🇬🇧. In this course we use American English, so we say fall.

🎡 The Season Wheel

Spin to a season: see the weather in Tunisia, the months and what kids like to do!

Step 2

❤️ Love, Like, Don't Like, Hate

Use love, like, don't like, dislike and hate with a noun to give your opinion about the weather — or anything else!

😍I lovethe summer.
🙂I likethe snow.
😕I don't like
I dislikerain.
😖I hatehot weather.

👤 He / She → add -s

  • She loves the fall.
  • He likes spring flowers.
  • He dislikes rain. She hates the wind.

🚫 Negative & ❓ Questions

  • I don't like rain. He doesn't like wet weather.
  • Do you like the beach? — Yes, I do.
  • Does she like snow? — No, she doesn't.
💡

After doesn't, no -s! He doesn't like ✅ — not "He doesn't likes" ❌. And be kind: we use hate for things like weather or homework, but for people we say "I don't know him very well" — not "I hate him". 😊
