🏐 Let's Go To The Beach! — Making Suggestions

What should we do today? In this lesson you will learn to suggest an activity with Let's…, How about…?, What about…? and We should… — and to answer a suggestion: "That's a great idea!" or "No, thanks."

🎬 Let's Imagine...

A Free Saturday

Read the little scene below.

LeoIt's Saturday and it's sunny! Let's go to the beach!
MiaNo, it's too hot at noon. How about a game of cards first?
LeoGreat idea! And let's go to the beach at five.
🧑‍🏫 Teacher SamiThree ways to suggest: Let's + verb, How about / What about + noun, and We should + verb. Mia said no — but kindly, with a reason. 👏

🤔 It's Saturday. What do you suggest to your friend?

Sur la terrasse d'une maison blanche aux volets bleus, Leo, une serviette de plage sous le bras, montre la mer ; Mia, à l'ombre de la vigne, tient un jeu de cartes
🏖️ "Let's go to the beach!" — 🃏 "How about a game of cards?"
Step 1

💬 Making A Suggestion

Here are three ways to make a suggestion.

🚀Let's + verbLet's eat out. Let's play cards.
🤔How about + noun?How about a game of cards?
💭What about + noun?What about a pizza?
💡You / We should + verbWe should go skiing.
⚡

Let's = let us. After Let's, just the verb: "Let's go" ✅ — not "Let's to go" ❌. After How about / What about, use a noun: "How about a swim?" Bonus: you can also use a verb + -ing: "How about swimming?"

🎰 The Suggestion Machine

Choose a way to suggest and an activity. The machine builds the right sentence!

Step 2

👍 Responding To A Suggestion

Say yes with energy — or say no politely, with a short reason.

👍 Positive

  • That's a great idea!
  • That's a good idea.
  • Cool!
  • OK, let's go!

👎 Negative

  • I don't think so. It's raining.
  • No, thanks.
  • Thanks, but I'm not hungry.
  • We should go out to eat. — No, thanks. I'm not hungry.
💡

Be kind! "That's a bad idea." is very direct — it can hurt your friend. It's nicer to say "I don't think so" or "Thanks, but…" and give a reason, then suggest something else: "How about a movie?" 😊

🎯 Great Idea Or No, Thanks?

Look at the situation and listen to the suggestion. Choose the best answer! 8 rounds.

Step 3 · Final Task!

🌦️ Plan The Weekend!

Choose the weather and who is hungry. Leo and Mia make suggestions and answer — listen to their conversation!

Quatre vignettes avec Leo et Mia : soleil, ils vont à la plage ; pluie, film sur le canapé avec du pop-corn ; chaleur, cartes et glaces à l'ombre d'un palmier ; froid, chocolat chaud dans la cuisine
