🗺️ Excuse Me, Where's The Museum?

A new unit: getting around town! Today you will learn the names of transportation (bus, subway, train, taxi…), ask politely where a place is ("Excuse me, do you know where the museum is?"), answer with on, near, next to, across from, and give steps in the right order: First… Next… Then…

🎬 Let's Imagine...

A Visitor In The Town

Read the little scene below.

A touristExcuse me, do you know where the museum is?
NoraYes! It's on Jasmine Street, across from the park. First, walk to the end of this street. Then you can see it!
The touristThank you very much! You're a great guide!
🧑‍🏫 Teacher SamiNora is a great guide! Excuse me, do you know where the museum is? · It's on Jasmine Street · across from the park · First… Then… Let's learn to find our way in town!

🤔 Can you explain the way to your school?

Step 1

🚌 Transportation

Click a card to hear the word. How do you go to school?

🚇

In American English, the train under the city is the subway. In Tunis, we say the metro (the light rail), and the train to La Marsa is the TGM. And when you don't take any transportation, you walk!

Step 2

📍 Asking For And Giving A Location

Ask someone where a place is. Add Excuse me or Pardon me to be more polite.

❓ Asking

  • Where is the museum?
  • Do you know where the museum is?
  • Excuse me, where is the library?
  • Pardon me, do you know where the train station is?

📍 Answering

  • It's on Jasmine Street. (on + street name)
  • It's near the park. (not far)
  • It's next to the bank. (right beside it)
  • It's across from the school. (on the other side of the street)
⚡

Watch the word order! "Where is the museum?" ✅ — but "Do you know where the museum is?" ✅. With Do you know, the verb is goes at the end. Never say "Do you know where is the museum?" ❌

Step 3

1️⃣ Adverbs Of Sequence

Adverbs of sequence put actions in the correct order. They are very useful to give directions or instructions.

🔢 Number words

First, take the bus to the metro station. Second, take the metro to the park. Third, walk to the museum.

These words are followed by a comma (,).

➡️ First, next, then

First, take the bus. Next, take the metro. Then walk.

Next and then mean the same here. Then usually has no comma.

🌸 Example: First, Leo buys flowers at the market. Then he gives them to his mom. 💐

🧩 Step By Step

Click the steps in the right order. Then listen to the instructions with First, Next, Then! 5 missions.
