🏨 Can You Recommend A Good Hotel?
Summer vacation! Leo's family wants to spend a week in Hammamet. Today you will ask for and give hotel recommendations, read hotel reviews, learn the words to reserve a room (check in, check out, single, double, rate) and use would like: "I'd like to make a reservation, please."
Planning The Summer Vacation
Leo's dad asks his colleague, Mrs. Ben Salah, for advice. Leo listens.
🤔 Where would you like to spend your summer vacation?

⭐ Asking For And Making Hotel Recommendations
Remember Lesson 41 (Do you know a good place for pizza?)? It works for hotels too!
❓ Asking
- Can you recommend a good hotel?
- Do you know a good hotel in Hammamet?
➕ Follow-up questions
- How much is it a night?
- Is there free wireless internet? (Wi-Fi)
- What are the rooms like?
⭐ Recommending
- How about the Jasmine Hotel?
- I can recommend the Palm Beach Hotel.
💬 Responding
- 👍 Sounds perfect!
- 👎 I don't think so.
- 🤔 I'm not sure.
- ➡️ Do you know any others?
📖 Reading Hotel Reviews
Before you choose a hotel, read the reviews — what other guests think. Look for the stars, the good points and the bad points (with but — Lesson 46!).
🔎 The Review Reader
Read the three reviews, then help each family choose the best hotel for them. 6 families!
🛎️ Reserving A Room
Click a card to hear the words of a hotel reservation.
📞 Making the reservation
- I'd like to make a reservation. · I'd like to reserve a room.
- A: When are you checking in? — B: March 15th. (the day you arrive)
- A: When are you checking out? — B: March 19th. (the day you leave)
- A: What's the rate? — B: It's 210 dinars a night. (the price for one night)
🛏️ Which room?
- a single room (for one person)
- a double room (for two people)
- a family room (for a family)
- a nonsmoking room 🚭
To hold a reservation, the clerk asks: "Can I have your credit card number?" That's a job for parents only! Never give a card number on the phone or online yourself. 🌍 Culture note: US hotels often ask how many guests the room is for, then ask about bed sizes — one large bed or two smaller beds.
🙏 Would Like + Noun Or Infinitive
Use would like to make a polite request. It's more polite than want!
I'd like a double room.
She'd like a nonsmoking room.
Mr. Trabelsi would like to check in on May 21st.
They'd like to check out on January 3rd.
I would → I'd · he would → he'd · they would → they'd
Would you like a double room?
Would you like to reserve the room now?
— Yes, please. / No, thank you.
Add please to be even more polite: "I'd like to make a reservation, please." And after would like, use to + verb: "I'd like to check in" ✅ — "I'd like check in" ❌.
