🎊 What Was It Like?
Yasmine is back from her cousin's wedding in Djerba. Hana wants to hear everything — but her first question only gets "Yes, I did." Learn to make past questions (Did you go…? · Was it…?) and to ask open questions that keep the conversation going: What was it like? · How did you like it?
Back From Djerba
Monday, lunch break. Yasmine was absent on Friday: she was at her cousin's wedding in Djerba.
🤔 Which question gets a longer answer: "Did you like it?" or "How did you like it?"
❓ Past Tense Questions
Two ways to make a question in the past — it depends on the verb.
🔵 Did + subject + base verb
Use did at the beginning. The main verb is in its base form — no -ed, no -s!
Did he go to Djerba?
Did they eat dinner?
🟣 Was / Were + subject
With the verb be, put was or were at the front.
Statement: He was happy.
Question: Was he happy?
Were they at the wedding?
Did already shows the past, so the verb doesn't change: Did he went? → Did he go? · Did she ate? → Did she eat? · Did you was? → Were you…?

🚪 Open And Closed Questions
Open questions have more than one possible answer. Closed questions invite only two kinds of answer: yes or no. Open questions are generally better to encourage conversation.
Open question
How was Djerba?
Closed question

🔍 Description And Opinion Questions
There are two important types of open questions. Be careful with the word like — it has two different meanings!
🖼️ Description: What … like?
💭 Opinion: How … ?
like = two meanings. In What was it like?, like means "similar to" → describe it. In How did you like it?, like means "enjoy" → give your opinion.
