📚 How Many Are There? — Plurals & Quantifiers
Today you will learn how to make English nouns plural, how to say "there is" and "there are", and how to talk about amounts with "a few", "some", and "a lot of".

📚 Forming Plurals
To make most nouns plural, add an -s. But watch out for a special rule!
Most Words: Just Add -s
- desk → desks
- phone → phones
- student → students
- computer → computers
Words Ending In x, sh, s, ch: Add -es
- class → classes
- box → boxes
- brush → brushes
- watch → watches
💡 Notice how "-es" often adds a little extra sound, almost like a new syllable: "class" → "class-es".

Use "there is" (short: "there's") for ONE thing, and "there are" for MORE than one.
There Is (singular)
- "There's a book on my desk."
There Are (plural)
- "There are twenty-four students in my class."
🔢 Talking About Amounts
Use a quantifier before a plural noun to say how many there are.
A Few
A small number: "There are a few pencils in my pencil case."
Some
An amount, not exact: "There are some computers in the lab."
A Lot Of
A large amount: "There are a lot of books in the library."
