👉 "Be From" vs. "Live In"
Use "be from" to say where a person originally comes from. Use "live in" to say where they live now — it isn't always the same place!
Be From (origin)
- "I'm from the UK."
Live In (current home)
- "I live in London."
Use "but" to contrast the two: "He's from Los Angeles, but he lives in New York."

❓ Asking "Where" Questions
Use "where" questions to ask where someone is from, or where a place is.
Where Are You From?
- "Where are you from?" — "I'm from Lyon."
Where Is...?
- "Where is Lyon?" — "Lyon is in France."
✏️ When you write a city AND a country together, put a comma after the city: "I'm from Rome, Italy."
